Yes, we’re kind of hooked on apples right now. We like to eat seasonally and so we’re getting our fill of all things apple this fall. I made this dessert for a dinner party and the hostess asked where I bought it from. Nicest compliment ever! It looks pretty and tastes amazing. Best part? It’s so fast and easy to make. It was one of those crazy days with a million kids’ activities and I was able to whip this up right before we headed out the door. After dinner at our friend’s house, we simply warmed it up in their oven right before serving.
Simple Apple Tart
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 sheet parchment paper
- 9 apples- cored, sliced (leaves skin on)
- 3/4 c brown sugar
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Line baking sheet with parchment paper, preheat oven to 400
Mix together apples, sugar, lemon, cinnamon in bowl- let sit for 5 minutes
Roll puff pastry onto baking sheet
Assemble apple mixture in rows, slightly overlapping slices, Leave 1 inch border on edges to fold over for the crust
Sprinkle additional 2 tbs brown sugar and over the top
Bake for 20-25 minutes until you see puffed up golden goodness
Pairs well with caramel gelato. We recommend gelato over ice ceam as it's typically lower in fat. Gelato has less cream, more milk than ice cream. In addition to usually not adding any egg yolks like icecream, its churned at a much slower rate (so less air is incorporated into it) making it a denser (and in our opinion tastier) alternative!
I also made a kid-friendly version of mini apple pies in little silicon icecream cones topped with caramel gelato…
My 9 year old daughter thought it would be fun to bake the initials of each kid into their pie, so she did.
They were definitely a hit! Not too much sugar and perfectly portioned (will share this recipe soon!) We suggest keeping some puff pastry in your freezer for times when you want a quick and simple dessert…such as this apple tart! Happy Fall!
