Being busy moms, we are all about quick and easy meals. Yet, we don’t want to skimp on quality, fresh ingredients or flavor. A lot goes into planning new, healthy, tasty meals for our families. With busy work and family schedules, being able to select our dinners online and having the exact, pre-portioned ingredients shipped right to our doors is a true lifesaver for those hectic weeknights. There are many different meal delivery programs to choose from, but after trying quite a few our overwhelming favorite has been Hello Fresh.
There are so many things we love about this service. You can select from 15 chef-curated recipes per week. It’s easy to customize the plan to your family size and dietary preferences. You can skip or delay a week if needed and it’s easy to cancel your plan at any time (not that you’ll want to!). I mean, it makes your life SO much easier and it’s super affordable when you break down the price of all the high quality ingredients shipped for free in an insulated cooler box.
Unlike other delivery services, where all the ingredients for multiple meals are mixed together in the box, Hello Fresh comes with each individual meal packaged in it’s own bag inside the cooler. No sorting through all the ingredients looking for what you need to cook that night’s dinner. This convenience factor is huge.
The recipe cards are large, easy to follow instructions. They specify exactly what kitchen tools you need and break down each recipe into 6 easy to follow steps. Meals are designed to be prepared start to finish in under 3o minutes. If you are really short on time, you can even select from their 20-Minute Meals. From past experience with other delivery services, we’ve spent 20 minutes just chopping and prepping ingredients with on average a 45 minute to 1 hr total cook time. No thanks!
You definitely do not need to know how to cook to follow their recipes! They are so easy and the step-by step pictures are really helpful. Our kids wanted to help out every step of the way.
On the menu for our week was:
Japapanese-style panko pork cutlets with sesame cucumber salad and jasmine rice
Sweetheart’s new york strip steak with sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, and blood orange sauce (made on Valentine’s Day!)
Spiced dijon salmon with apple arugula salad and couscous
Normally, if we announced these menu items to our picky kids they would’ve whined and complained that they sounded disgusting. Yet, once they saw the appetizing recipe cards and helped prepare the meals along side us they were more than willing to try everything on their plates….even brussels sprouts. And you know what? They devoured those brussels!
These were sophisticated meals with tons of flavor. Being dietitians, we loved how the meals were as nutritious as they were delicious. Hello Fresh has dietitians on staff who work closely with the culinary team to ensure their recipes are healthy and have a list of clean ingredients. Each meal had a complete nutritional information chart included. With other meal services we’ve tried, the food looked and tasted great but wasn’t always the healthiest (laden with tons of sodium and saturated fats).
