Pumpkin Spice Sparkling Sangria

The theme for October’s Recipe Redux of “Fresh from the Pumpkin Patch” goes along with our love of everything fall. Being that California temps are still in the 80’s, we can’t dress for fall yet. However, we are still eating and drinking up all the fall flavors.

Pumpkin spice everything, please.

Pumpkin spice cookies, coffee, cakes…why not sangrias? We tested out a few variations and the final outcome turned out delicious and perfect for the fall.

Cheers, witches!

While pumpkin spice certainly tastes good, did you know that there are also associated health benefits?

Pumpkin spice usually contains cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice, each with it’s own health benefit.

Cinnamon is rich in anti-oxidants, which may help protect the brain. This Asian spice is associated with potentially improving memory and better cognitive processing. There is also some research to support that cinnamon may help diabetics better control blood sugar.

Ginger contains important minerals iron, potassium and zinc. It may also help relieve minor digestive problems such as nausea. Some evidence suggests ginger may protect brain cells from Alzheimer’s disease.

Similar to cinnamon, nutmeg exudes warmth. It contains fiber, B vitamins and minerals. Nutmeg has been shown to possibly slow cognitive decline in people with Alzheimer’s disease and help with brain tissue recovery after a stroke.

Allspice has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Home remedies made with allspice aid upset stomach, indigestion, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Other healthy ingredients of this drink- all that fruit! Naturally sweetened with juice and filled with fiber and antioxidants, fruit is key for heart and gut health. The champagne provides health benefits as well.

Share in our day as we sipped on our pumpkin spice sangrias at an early Halloween party.
